Home Improvement Contractor Leads in Northeast Ohio: Why HBC Leads Are Different

April 2026 · By Adam Kilgore, Hometown Builders Club

If you've spent any time on HomeAdvisor, Angi, or Thumbtack as a contractor, you know what those leads are like: homeowners who are price shopping, who submitted their information to five companies simultaneously, and who may or may not be ready to start a project. You spend real money to acquire them and convert maybe one in five.

Hometown Builders Club does something different. Here's the actual difference, and what it means for contractors who work with us.

What a Platform Lead Looks Like vs. What an HBC Lead Looks Like

A typical platform lead

A homeowner wants a kitchen renovation. They fill out a form on a lead platform. Their information is sold to three to six contractors in the area simultaneously. The homeowner receives calls from contractors they've never heard of. They may or may not have a defined scope. They may or may not have a budget. They are almost certainly also getting bids from contractors who drove in from outside the area. You spend $60-$300 for that lead and convert at 15-25%.

An HBC lead

A homeowner has received the Home Clarity Report. Adam Kilgore has walked their home, assessed every system, documented every project, and created written scopes of work for the work they're ready to pursue. The homeowner has a 30-50 page report on their property, architect-grade floor plans, and current cost ranges for the project. They know what they need and approximately what it should cost. They're ready to move.

When that homeowner contacts an HBC trade partner, they're not shopping. They're choosing. You arrive at a conversation that's 80% done.

What one trade partner told us: "The HBC clients are nothing like anything else I've used. The homeowner already has a written scope and a realistic budget. My close rate with HBC referrals is nearly double what it is with platform leads. And I'm spending less time on site before I win the job."

The Information Advantage

When a client comes to you through HBC, you receive (with their permission) relevant sections of the Home Clarity Report, the floor plans, the condition notes, the scope of work for your specific trade. You arrive knowing:

This is information that normally takes a full site visit to gather, and even then, you're often working with incomplete information. HBC clients arrive pre-documented.

Summit County Market Context

The Summit County residential market has specific characteristics that make HBC referrals particularly valuable:
