FAQ

Common Questions About the Home Clarity Report

Everything you need to know to make a confident decision

Q1: How is this different from a home inspection?
Home inspections and Home Clarity Reports serve completely different purposes.

A home inspection focuses on code compliance and finding defects. An inspector examines your home to identify problems, safety issues, and items that don't meet current building codes. They'll tell you what's wrong, but they won't give you pricing information, contractor
recommendations, strategic guidance about project sequencing, or ongoing support after the inspection is complete. Home inspections are typically done before purchasing a home to identify problems that might affect your buying decision.

The Home Clarity Report shows you what's possible with your home, what improvements or changes will actually cost using current Summit County pricing, and connects you with trusted professionals who can do the work. You get comprehensive 3D documentation you own forever, transparent pricing for all discussed projects, a strategic roadmap for tackling multiple projects in the right order, and lifetime access to expert advice.

Think of it this way: a home inspection tells you if your home has problems. The Home Clarity
Report helps you understand your home's potential and make smart decisions about improvements, renovations, and maintenance over years of ownership.

Both services have value, but they're solving completely different problems for homeowners.

Q2: Do I have to use your recommended contractors?
Absolutely not. You're free to work with anyone you choose.

The contractors we introduce you to are vetted professionals we trust based on years of working relationships and consistent quality. But these are introductions, not requirements.

Many clients get multiple bids and appreciate having our network as a trusted starting point. Others already have contractors they like and just want our advice on the project approach and realistic pricing. Some clients interview contractors from our network alongside others they
found independently.

Either way, you'll have the comprehensive documentation and pricing intelligence you need to make confident decisions regardless of who you hire.

What we won't do is recommend contractors we haven't personally vetted. If you ask us about a contractor you found and we don't know them, we'll be honest about that. We can't vouch for people we havent worked with.

Q3: What if I just need one quick project done and don't want the full report?
Call us! We offer free project referrals for homeowners who have a single, clear, specific need.

If you know you need a roof replacement, bathroom remodel, or deck built, and you just want a connection to a quality contractor, we'll help you at no cost. We'll introduce you to someone from our trusted network and make sure the project goes smoothly.

The free referral service is designed for straightforward, single-project needs. The Home Clarity Report is designed for homeowners who want comprehensive guidance across multiple projects, major renovations, or strategic planning for their homes future.

If you're not sure which service is right for you, call us and we'll help you figure it out. We're not trying to sell you more than you need.

Q4: How long does the whole process take from start to finish?
From your initial consultation to receiving your complete Home Clarity Report: 5 to 7 days total.

Here's the typical timeline:

Day 1: Initial consultation call (30 minutes) where we discuss your goals and schedule the on-site
visit.

Day 2-3: On-site visit at your home (2 to 3 hours) where we capture all documentation and discuss your projects in detail.

Day 4-5: Behind-the-scenes analysis, contractor consultations, and report preparation.

Day 6-7: Complete report delivery including video recap, written presentation, and 3D documentation.

If you need a faster turnaround for time-sensitive reasons, let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate. If you need more time before the on-site visit, that's fine too. We're flexible based on your schedule.

Q5: Can you work with homes outside Summit County?
Currently, we focus exclusively on Summit County and immediately surrounding areas including Cuyahoga Falls, Akron, Hudson, Stow, Bath, Copley, Fairlawn, Tallmadge, and similar nearby communities.
The reason for this geographic focus is that our pricing intelligence and contractor network are
based on deep local knowledge. Construction costs in Summit County are different from Cleveland, Columbus, or rural Ohio. Permit processes vary by municipality. Contractor  availability and pricing change significantly across regions.

We'd rather serve Summit County exceptionally well than serve a wider area with less accurate information.

If you're outside this area but close to the boundary, contact us and we'll see if we can help. If you're further away, we may be able to refer you to similar services in your region, but we can't promise the same level of local expertise we provide in Summit County.

Q6: What if my home is really old or really unusual?
Even better! Older homes and unique properties benefit most from expert guidance.

Older homes have more complexity, more opportunities for costly mistakes, and more need for strategic planning. A 1920s bungalow with knob-and-tube wiring, plaster walls, and original plumbing needs very different guidance than a 2010 colonial with modern systems.

Unique properties like mid-century moderns, historic homes, unusual layouts, or homes with additions built by previous owners are exactly where 25+ years of experience becomes invaluable. I've seen almost everything at this point, and I love the challenge of figuring out the
best approach for unusual situations.

If your home was built before 1980, has had multiple additions, or has features that make contractors scratch their heads, the Home Clarity Report will be especially valuable for you.

Q7: Is the 3D scanning disruptive? Do we need to prepare our home?
The scanning process is quick, non-invasive, and requires minimal preparation.

You don't need to move furniture, clean obsessively, or do anything special. We're documenting your home as it exists so we can give you realistic advice. A messy basement or cluttered garage doesn't bother us at all.

What we do need:

Access to all areas of the home including attic, basement, crawl spaces, and mechanical rooms. If you have locked areas or storage we can't access, let us know in advance.

The ability to see major systems like your HVAC equipment, water heater, electrical panel, and plumbing fixtures. If things are buried behind stored items, we may ask you to clear a path.

Pets secured or comfortable with visitors. If you have dogs that need to be crated or cats that might dart out doors, just let us know your preference.

The actual scanning takes about an hour for an average home. While that's happening, we'll be walking around together having conversations about your goals and projects, so the time passes quickly.

Q8: What happens after I receive my report? What does lifetime membership really mean?
You're a lifetime member of Hometown Builders Club. That's not marketing language. It's a real, ongoing relationship.

Here's what lifetime membership means in practice:

You can call or email anytime with questions about your home, projects, contractors, or decisions you're trying to make. There's no limit on frequency or duration. If you need five minutes of advice or an hour-long conversation, we're available.

We'll proactively check in with you at least once a year to see how your home is doing, what projects you've completed, and what you're planning next. We don't wait for you to remember to contact us.

When you're ready to start a project, we'll help you connect with contractors, review their proposals, and make sure everything is progressing well. We're your advocate throughout the process.

We maintain your complete home database forever. Your 3D documentation, photos, project notes, and history are permanently stored. If you need access to something years later, it's
available.

As we develop new services, members hear about them first and get preferential pricing.

Think of it like having a family member in the construction business who actually enjoys getting your phone calls and helping you figure out home stuff. That' s the relationship we're building.

Q9: Can we share the report with our spouse, family members, or contractors?
Yes! Everything we deliver is yours to share freely.

The 3D tour has shareable links that work on any device. You can send the link to your spouse, your kids, your parents, your interior designer, or contractors you're getting bids from.

The written presentation is a PDF you can email to anyone who needs to see it.

The pricing information is meant to be used when evaluating contractor proposals and making budget decisions.

Many clients share the 3D tour with family members who live out of state so they can be part of the decision-making process. Some clients share it with multiple contractors when getting competitive bids. Others share it with their financial advisors when planning renovation
budgets.

You own this information. Use it however it's most helpful to you.

Q10: What if we're not ready to start projects right away?
That's actually the ideal time to get a Home Clarity Report.

Many clients want the documentation and strategic clarity now, even if they won't start projects for 6 to 12 months or longer. Having the roadmap lets you plan financially, save appropriately, and make decisions without feeling rushed.

You might discover that the project you thought needed to happen immediately can actually wait, while something else should be prioritized. Or you might learn that two projects should be done together for efficiency. Having this information before you're ready to start gives you time to plan properly.

Your lifetime membership means we're here whenever you're ready. Get the report now, take your time making decisions, and call us when you want to move forward. There's no expiration date on our support.

We've had clients wait two years after getting their report before starting their first project. When they finally called, we still had all their documentation, remembered their situation, and picked up right where we left off.
